Carter Shappy

Hello! My name is Carter Shappy. I am the lone magician behind everything Studio Shappy. This big, beautiful practice of mine is the coalescence of the many, sometimes head-scratchingly different, creative endeavours I’ve pursued throughout the past several years. Though my practice is primarily made up of my visual art, I am also a practicing printer, designer, illustrator, fabricator, art techincian and shop manager. The Artist Since receiving my BFA from the Maine College of Art in Portland, ME, I’ve established myself in the greater Maine community as a prolific, multiskilled and meticulous visual artist. I have collaborated, exhibited and worked with numerous entities on a variety of art and design projects, including Portland Museum of Art, Maine College of Art, T.D. Bank, Portland Public Library, Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences, Foam Brewers, Austin Street Brewery, RWS Art Studios, Norway Savings Bank, Greenhut Galleries, Space Gallery, Gulf of Maine ECOARTS and more. My work is frequently inspired by my interests in natural phenomena, flora and fauna, perception, psychedelia and everyday, mundane experiences. By embellishing and transforming mundane elements of our lives, I strive to offer a reevaluation of peripheral or commonplace things and experiences.
