Ann Casady

After a long career as a graphic designer and design educator, Ann Casady made the leap to pursue painting. For several decades, she worked extensively with the Buffalo AKG Art Museum, creating and producing the museum’s publications and printed materials shaping its visual identity, as well as the Burchfield Penny Art Center in Buffalo, Greater Portland Landmarks, and Simons Architects in Portland.
“The language of design—clarity, balance, and the relationship between shape and space—continues to inform my work, while painting offers a more intuitive and emotional means of exploration. Color lies at the center of my paintings. I am drawn to its power to evoke feeling, create atmosphere, and transform perception. Through layered fields of color and simplified geometric forms, I explore how shape defines space and how color, placed in conversation with itself, comes alive.
Influenced by my background in design, I embrace bold compositions and a vibrant palette while allowing intuition and curiosity to guide the work. Essentially, my paintings celebrate the expressive power of color and its ability to shape atmosphere, awaken memory, and forge connections to something both deeply personal and universally shared.”
