Dominique joined RWS a year ago this August. She is a ceramicist working in porcelain and she paints occasionally. Making art is the only thing that has ever made sense to her; she says it’s the only thing that she’s good at and the only thing that brings her pleasure.

Pleasure is the primary focus in Dominique’s art-making. Her work is a collection of personal experiences inspired by trauma and what she loves, and she loves sharing that with other people. She likes hearing the way people process her work, and thinks about how people experience pleasure and the ways they use it in their lives as a part of her process. Her aim is to extract what makes people feel most like themselves and put it in her work, “Ceramics are so comforting to people, it makes them smile.”

Something else that makes Dominique smile are her Pastene tomato cans. She uses the bottom of the can to make the bottoms of all her mugs, “I have 60 in my studio at once. I use them for water, for slip, for everything.” The next form she’d like to make is a series of ceramic clocks.

Dominique has monthly web shop drops that sell out fast. Her work is also sold through retailers across America. She feels oddly vulnerable knowing that she has a following, “If it wasn’t for RWS I wouldn’t be where I am right now. The fact that I was able to snag such a special space in such a special community is so informative of my work. I live 30 minutes away and I'm happy to make the drive.”
